Replacing the old Navision-based customer portal with a responsive and user-friendly Sales/trading platform

VARO is a supplier of high-quality fuels for various types of customers and industries in North-West Europe. VARO produces and distributes from Switzerland, Germany, France and the Benelux, including transport fuels, heating fuel and biofuels.

The Challenge

Supplying fuel to customers is at the core of VARO’s business.

Their fully integrated and adaptable network of production and storage facilities, distribution channels and sales points means that they can provide fuel to their customers where they need it and when they need it in Germany, Switzerland, Benelux and France.

VARO is innovating and working with integrity along the entire supply chain to deliver high quality oil products and services where and when needed. Today, VARO has +200 Petrol stations, 46 Terminals, 10 bunker stations, 2 Refineries, 21 Sales offices.

The former customer portal was the place for customers to go to get their information for more than 12 years. Digital evolution and new user requirements, however, meant that after years of great service, a new solution became necessary. After a thorough re-evaluation of processes, work-flows, and relevant data streams, a new customers-portal was developed to best serve VARO’s customers in the Benelux.

User experience was at the core of the quest for a performant and future-proof system, which would also enable the connection to other VARO-entities in Europe and support further growth of VARO’s commercial online activities. The energy market is a truly moving market, which made the requirement for a responsive solution for mobile devices a must!

The Solution

The major aim of using DynamicWeb is to provide data relevant to the users

Therefore, the solution has turned the static quadrant interface into a portal that displays the most valuable information at the heart of the portal. From there surrounding information is available with one click.

The users of the platform are both customers and commercial employees within VARO. The connection of these groups through this common platform adds significant value to those users who can access valuable information such as agreed conditions, order status, etc.

Business is simply never interrupted – a highly effective and adapted offer for VARO’s wholesales customers in the current market.

We were looking for a supplier who could help us replace our 12-year-old static customer portal. We found a partner in Bluedesk, not only providing us with a new fantastic, responsive solution but also helping us with the further development of our marketing strategy. Thanks to the collaboration between Supplier, Sales-, Marketing- and IT-team we have delivered a successful project.

The Result

From phone and FAX to B2B eCommerce portal

Before the launch of the Sales/Trading platform clients of VARO Energy ordered via the traditional way of doing business in the oil industry: Old portal, phone, and FAX.

Today the portal handles on average between 64.000.000 liters and 100.000.000 liters per month only in the Benelux.

The success of the business portal, the ease of use of DynamicWeb and the possibilities of the Enterprise license have led to the roll-out of a B2C eCommerce portal for Switzerland whereas the German B2C eCommerce is also on the roadmap.
